Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya is a leading educational institution in Yavatmal district and is affiliated to Sant Gadage Baba Amravati University. Late Shrikrishna alias Babaji Dattatray Datey - the founder of the Vishuddha Vidyalaya Trust and Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal Trust has established the Vanijya Mahavidyalaya on 26th July 1959. As he was the visionary person, he facilitated the education to the poor and needy students under ‘Earn & Learn’ scheme.
Initially, the college was known as ‘Vanijya Mahavidyalaya’. Then its name is changed to Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal. In 2009, again the college is renamed and now it is known as ‘Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya’
The College of Commerce was started in 1959. In 1959, a total of 145 students were studying in the Commerce College. After that in the year 1962-63 the branch of art was started in this college. Gradually the scope of this institution expanded. Since then till date this college has been providing disciplined and receptive education to the students of Yavatmal district as well as the surrounding districts. At present over 2,350 students are studying in the college.
Salient Features of the College:
- Senior College - At present, in senior college B. Com., B.A. courses as well as M. Com., M.A. Marathi and M.A. History courses under post graduation courses are conducted.
- Junior College - In junior college, of 11th and 12th Commerce classes are conducted both in English and Marathi medium and classes of Arts faculty are conducted in Marathi medium.
- Vocational Education - In order to provide vocational education to the students, (a) Automobile Technology, (b) Electrical Technology, (c) Banking, Finance Services and Insurance these courses are conducted in the college under Higher Secondary Vocational Courses.
- N. C. C. - The Department of N. C. C. is established in 1976. A total strength of the N. C. C. Unit is of 100 cadets (Boys-65 and Girls-35). Many students of the college are recruited in the Indian Army through our N. C. C. Unit.
- National Service Scheme (N. S. S.) - Through N. S. S. the intention is to promote the virtues like voluntary self-service, social service, cleanliness of the surroundings, helping the poor and needy, in students.
- Cultural Activities - Apart from the educational activities, participation of the students in cultural and other activities is also remarkable.
- Personality Development - Along with college education, special attention is also provided to the personality development of the students.
- Library and Study Rooms - The College has its well-equipped and well-maintained Library. According to the educational courses various books are made available for the students for their ready reference. There are separate Study cum Reading rooms for boys and girls in the library.
- Computer Laboratory - The College has a well equipped computer lab with modern computer network and LAN internet connectivity.
- Sports - The College has a well equipped gymnasium hall and a large play ground.
- Hostel Facility - The College has provided a hostel facility for girls.
- Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) - The College has obtained affiliation from Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) in 2018. (Centre No. 14116).
- Alumni Association - College has formed Alumni Association, which helps the college through its various activities.
महाविद्यालयाविषयी थोडेसे....
बाबाजी दाते कला आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय ही यवतमाळ जिल्ह्यातील एक अग्रगण्य शैक्षणिक संस्था आहे. ही संस्था संत गाडगे बाबा अमरावती विद्यापीठाशी संलग्न आहे. विशुद्ध विद्यालय, यवतमाळ या संस्थेचे संस्थापक कै. श्रीकृष्ण(बाबाजी) दतात्रय दाते यांनी वाणिज्य महाविद्यालयाची स्थापना दि. २६ जुलै १९५९ रोजी केली. कै. बाबाजी दाते हे दूरदृष्टीचे असल्याने त्यांनी महाविद्यालयीन विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी ‘कमवा व शिका’ या योजनेअंतर्गत गरजू आणि गरीब विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी शिक्षणाची सोय उपलब्ध करून दिली.
या महाविद्यालयाचे सुरूवातीचे नाव ‘वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय’ असे होते. त्यानंतर कला आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय, यवतमाळ असे नामकरण करण्यात आले. सन २००९ साली महाविद्यालयाचे पुनःनामकरण होऊन आता ते ‘बाबाजी दाते कला आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय’ या नावाने ओळखले जाते.
वाणिज्य महाविद्यालयाची सुरुवात १९५९ साली वाणिज्य शिक्षणापासून झाली. सन १९५९ मध्ये महाविद्यालयात वाणिज्य शाखेत एकूण १४५ विद्यार्थी शिक्षण घेत होते. त्या नंतर सन १९६२-१९६३ मध्ये या महाविद्यालयात कलाशाखेची सुरूवात झाली. हळूहळू या संस्थेचा व्याप वाढत गेला. तेव्हापासून आजपर्यंत हे महाविद्यालय यवतमाळ जिल्हा तसेच आजुबाजूच्या जिल्ह्यातील विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी शिस्तबद्ध आणि संस्कारक्षम शिक्षणाची सोय उपलब्ध करून देत आहे. सध्या महाविद्यालयात २३५० चे वर विद्यार्थी शिक्षण घेत आहेत.
महाविद्यालयाची ठळक वैशिष्ट्येः
- वरिष्ठ महाविद्यालय - सध्या वरिष्ठ महाविद्यालयात बी.कॉम., बी.ए. तसेच पदव्युत्तर अभ्यासक्रमांतर्गत एम.कॉम., एम.ए. मराठी व एम.ए. इतिहासाचे वर्ग चालवले जातात.
- कनिष्ठ महाविद्यालय - कनिष्ठ महाविद्यालयात ११वी व १२वी वाणिज्य विभागाचे वर्ग इंग्रजी व मराठी माध्यमात शिकविले जातात. कला शाखेचे वर्ग मराठी माध्यमात शिकविले जातात.
- व्यावसायिक शिक्षण - विद्यार्थ्यांना व्यावसायिक शिक्षण उपलब्ध व्हावे या हेतुने महाविद्यालयात उच्च माध्यमिक व्यवसाय अभ्यासक्रमांतर्गत (अ) स्वयंचलित तंत्रज्ञान, (ब) विद्युत तंत्रज्ञान, (क) अधिकोष, वित्तीय सेवा आणि विमा हे वर्ग चालविले जातात.
- एन. सी. सी. - एन. सी. सी. विभागाची स्थापना १९७६ साली झाली. एन. सी. सी. युनिटची एकूण कॅडेट संख्या १०० (मुले - ६५ आणि मुली - ३५) आहे. या युनिटमधून महाविद्यालयाचे अनेक विद्यार्थी सैन्यात भरती झालेले आहेत.
- राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना (एनएसएस) - याद्वारे विद्यार्थ्यांमधील स्वयंसेवा, सामाजिक सेवा, आपल्या आजूबाजुच्या परिसराची स्वच्छता राखणे, गरीब व गरजू लोकांची मदत करणे या गुणांना प्रोत्साहन दिले जाते.
- सांस्कृतिक उपक्रम - महाविद्यालयातील विद्यार्थी शिक्षणासोबतच सांस्कृतिक उपक्रमांमध्ये हिरीरीने सहभागी होतात.
- व्यक्तिमत्व विकास - महाविद्यालय शिक्षणासोबतच विद्यार्थ्यांच्या व्यक्तिमत्व विकासाकडे विशेष लक्ष देते.
- ग्रंथालय आणि अभ्यासिका - ग्रंथालयात वेगवेगळ्या अभ्यासक्रमानुसार पुस्तके उपलब्ध असून ग्रंथालयात विद्यार्थी व विद्यार्थिनींसाठी स्वतंत्र अभ्यासिका आहेत.
- संगणक प्रयोगशाळा - आधुनिक संगणक नेटवर्क व LAN इंटरनेट कनेक्टिव्हिटी असलेली सुसज्ज संगणक प्रयोगशाळा महाविद्यालयात आहे.
- क्रीडा - सुसज्ज जिम्नॅशियम व प्रशस्त क्रीडा मैदान उपलब्ध आहे.
- वसतिगृह - मुलींकरिता महाविद्यालयात वसतिगृहाची उत्तम सोय उपलब्ध आहे.
- यशवंतराव चव्हाण महाराष्ट्र मुक्त विद्यापीठ (YCMOU) - सन २०१८ मध्ये महाविद्यालय यशवंतराव चव्हाण महाराष्ट्र मुक्त विद्यापीठाशी संलग्न झाले आहे. (केंद्र क्र. १४११६)
- माजी विद्यार्थी संघटना - महाविद्यालयात माजी विद्यार्थी संघटनेची स्थापना करण्यात आली आहे. महाविद्यालयाच्या विविध विकासात्मक उपक्रमांमध्ये माजी विद्यार्थी संघटना महत्त्वाची भूमिका बजावते.
